RELEASE: Renée Kohlman wins Gold at Taste Canada Awards
TouchWood Editions is pleased to share that All the Sweet Things: Baked Goods and Stories from the Kitchen of Sweetsugarbean, Renée Kohlman’s debut cookbook, is the 2018 Taste Canada Food Writing Awards Gold Winner in the Single-Subject Cookbook category. The announcement was made at the awards celebration in Toronto on October 29. All the Sweet Things was born from the success of Renée Kohlman’s popular food blog, Sweetsugarbean, and features more than 100 recipes for delectable sweet treats—sixty of which were developed specifically for the cookbook and forty that had previously been shared and loved on her website. With gorgeous food photography taken entirely on Kohlman’s iPhone, and heartwarming personal stories of growing up in her family’s prairie kitchen, Kohlman’s cookbook draws you to the kitchen to bake, and then back to the couch to read. “I am so thrilled and honoured to receive this recognition from my peers at Taste Canada,” says Kohlman. “I left a good part of my heart and soul in All the Sweet Things, and winning Gold really is the cherry on top of an incredible cookbook journey.” In the Single-Subject Cookbook category, Kristy Gardner’s Cooking with Cocktails (Countryman Press) took home Silver; other finalists in the category were Canadian Living: The Complete Vegetarian Cookbook by the Canadian Living Test Kitchen, The Soup Sisters Family Cookbook: More than 100 Family-friendly Recipes to Make and Share with Kids of All Ages edited by Sharon Hapton and Gwendolyn Richards, and The Preservatory: Seasonally Inspired Recipes for Creating and Cooking with Artisanal Preserves by Lee Murphy. All the Sweet Things was also the winner of a Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best First Book in English Canada, and was among the Globe and Mail’s best cookbooks of 2017.

“Every page is packed with deliciousness and irresistible recipes for cooks of all kinds. Not only is Renée a fantastic baker, she is a soulful writer and gifted photographer. When you’re not cooking from her book, you might just find yourself tucked into bed drooling over her photographs and savouring her heartfelt stories.” —Erin Scott, bestselling author of Yummy Supper

Also of note, Icon: Flagship Wines from British Columbia’s Best Wineries, John Schreiner’s latest tome on BC wines, was a finalist for this year’s awards competition in the Culinary Narratives category. To view the full list of 2018 Gold and Silver winners, please visit TasteCanada.org.
