Publicity and Marketing Coordinator

TouchWood Editions is looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and highly motivated book lover to join our team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the publisher, the publicity and marketing coordinator will plan and generate publicity campaigns to create public awareness of our books, maintain and utilize our website for online sales and marketing campaigns, and run our social media channels. This position is fully remote but presents the opportunity to work in person with TouchWood team members in Victoria and/or Toronto. All interviews with eligible candidates will be conducted remotely via virtual meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan, and execute title-specific publicity and promotional campaigns with input from publisher and authors.
  • Write concise and compelling press releases and media pitches.
  • Secure blurbs and contribute to promotional copy pre-publication.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with authors and media contacts.
  • Identify and pitch appropriate print and online media and festivals, coordinate author events, and identify special/targeted opportunities for all titles.
  • Handle, track, and follow up on all submissions for reviews and awards.
  • Create weekly media updates for sales representatives and publishing staff.
  • Maintain our Shopify website, including creating a regular newsletter, building our audience through marketing initiatives, discounts, and blog posts, and responding to customer queries.
  • Create and coordinate content for social media channels: Facebook and Instagram, as well as Pinterest, X, and TikTok in a lesser capacity.
  • Monitor performance metrics for digital campaigns and contribute ideas for improved social media engagement.
  • Assist and support Publisher with sales and marketing plans including any participation in conferences, trade shows, festivals, or industry events.
  • Participate and contribute updates to weekly staff meetings and seasonal acquisitions meetings.

Required knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in book publishing or a related field (marketing, communications, media and public relations).
  • Post secondary education in publishing or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian publishing industry.
  • Passion for books—particularly food and wine, lifestyle, regional history and memoir, and fiction.
  • Excellent Knowledge of G Suite, Shopify, Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop), Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and X).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and knowledge of digital marketing and advertising.
  • Ability to work under demanding deadlines and prioritize simultaneous tasks across multiple projects.
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and project-management skills.
  • Organized, results-driven and responsible.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
